341 LEVEL IV LATIN (4)
1 CREDIT
This course presents the students with readings from the best of Roman literature, with emphasis on poetry from Rome’s Golden Age. We’ll start with a review of grammar, and also learn a few more constructions. Historical readings cover the exciting period of the early Roman Empire. We’ll study the lives of both noble Romans and crazed emperors, and attempt to draw our own conclusions to some major historical mysteries. Was there really a conspiracy to kill the heirs of Augustus? Did Caligula make his horse a consul? Was Nero a misunderstood artist, or a madman? And just wait until you read the Aeneid, one of the greatest books ever written! We’ll have weekly discussions on important questions and literature. So get ready to discover the passion
of Catullus, the artfulness of Ovid, and the sheer genius of Vergil. This will be a course you’ll never forget!
Prerequisite: Teacher recommendation, proficient in Latin III.
