336 GREEK MYTHOLOGY (3)
1 ELECTIVE CREDIT

Why do people everywhere have myths?  From where do myths come?  What do they teach us?  This course encourages you to reflect deeply on the concepts of mythology via the stories of the Greeks.  We’ll also look at the history behind the myths, and examine ancient Greek culture, art and religion.  What is the purpose of the hero’s journey?  What did the Greeks think about divine will, justice and morality?  These are but some of the important questions that we will address in this course.  The student will study the common themes of Greek myths, and the similarities  found in the myths of other world cultures.  This course includes a great deal of reading and writing, including essays and creative writing assignments.  Students will also be expected to participate in class discussions.  The ultimate goal of this course is for every student to develop a personal interpretation of mythology, based upon our readings and studies.  Warning!  This course could be addictive!  You may find it hard to stop your studies at the end of the semester!
