It takes more than just coaching to earn the honor of being inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame, it takes someone who has played an integral role in the development and promotion of the game, someone who has brought lasting recognition to themselves and the sport through their work and achievements, and Jayne Barber has done just that. Ms. Barber, retired coach of the Bellows Falls Union High School girls basketball team for 28 years, was inducted to the New England Basketball Hall of fame at a ceremony at the Mohegan Sun earlier this month. The 2009 Masters of Ceremonies was famed former University of Vermont Head Men's Basketball Coach, Tom Brennan. There were a wide range of inductees, including players, coaches, administrators, referees and members of the media. Each year,
nominations from all six New England states are presented to the selection committee. The selection committee reviews the credentials of each nominee before voting for a class of inductees. Ms. Barber received a certificate and New England Basketball Hall of Fame poster. The New England Basketball hall of fame inducted it's first honorees in October 2002. Unlike the National Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass., this hall of fame honors only players, coaches and others who were involved in the sport in New England.
